Karen Rowan

Karen Rowan is the co-owner and director of Fluency Fast Language Classes and teaches Beginning and Intermediate Spanish classes. With Nahed Hazaa, Katya Paukova and Linda Li she helped to bring Arabic, Russian and Mandarin classes to Fluency Fast. She creates new curriculae in Spanish annually based on the 200 highest frequency words. She has the most fun teaching Beginning Spanish classes to adults who come in believing they are basically incapable of learning a language. She has a reputation among her students for inspiring audience heckling. "...I literally laughed so hard I cried."

She has been teaching Spanish with TPRS since 1995. She is the author of the TPRS® supplements for Paso a paso and Realidades published by Prentice Hall and is the co-author of TPRS® Gestures and Mini-Situations for Look, I Can Talk More with Blaine Ray and the editor of the new level 3 book by Joe Neilson and Blaine Ray Look, I'm Really Talking.

Karen was the director of the National TPRS® conference from 2003-2006 and has presented TPRS® workshops for Karen Rowan Workshops, Inc and Blaine Ray Workshops, Inc. since 1996. She developed the first coaching workshops for foreign language teachers and the first textbook adaptation workshops while presenting at National conferences. She is currently writing a coaching manual for TPRS® teachers.

Karen has taught Spanish since 1995 at both public and private schools in Colorado Springs. As the foreign language department chair at The Colorado Springs School she worked with department members to create and implemented a Pre-school through 12 TPRS® curriculum based on the Colorado State Standards and taught 8th-12th grade Spanish classes. From 2000-2002 she served a two-year term on the CCFLT board of directors. Karen has a BA in Spanish from The Colorado College and an MA in Spanish and pedagogy from the University of Northern Colorado.
