Von Ray
Von Ray has been teaching for 9 years, all of them with TPRS®. Von's students describe him as hilarious. He is legendary for his illogical use of ducks as main characters in his stories. "I laughed so hard my face hurt." In addition to teaching Fluency Fast classes, Von can also be seen on the Beginning Spanish Fluency Fast DVD.
From 2000-2004, Ray taught at Athenian Middle School in Danville, CA. Along with colleague Diane Grieman, he inherited a struggling Spanish program. The culminating event for the 8th grade Spanish classes was a test administered by the Athenian Upper School. Those who passed the test would move on to Spanish 2. Those who didn't would repeat level 1 at the high school level. The test consisted of listening comprehension, reading comprehension, grammar fill-in, speaking, and essay sections. The pass rate had been 20-30% in previous years. During the 4 years of the TPRS® program the pass rate climbed from 40% to over 90%. The school, parents and, most importantly, the students, were elated with their success.
Ray is the co-author, along with Blaine Ray and Michael Thompson, of Accelerated Mini-Stories for Look, I Can Talk. He has presented TPRS® workshops for 6 years and began teaching Fluency Fast language classes in Spanish in 2005. He lives in Pismo Beach, California with his wife Christi, and two daughters.
